UPTOWN LOWDOWN SWING & JAZZ
here is what others say about Uptown Lowdown Jazz . . .
I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know that you guys were perfect last night. I couldn't walk two feet without someone stopping me and to tell me how great you guys were. I couldn't be happier. It was a pleasure to meet you and I hope that we can work together again. Have a great holiday season and happy new year. Thanks again!

We would hire this band again in an instant! We got so many guests tell us that they simply loved the band. They are also the most friendly people we've met and they are able to play all the music we've special requested them from perfectly to the tee!!! Kids and adults will love this band! We also LOVED the band! Very professional and classy. :)

Good morning, Bert--
Have filled in and returned my review of yesterday. My disappointment was they only gave a scale of 1-5 in responding. Would have preferred 1-10, so you could have solid 10's! Sigh. Guess solid 5's is as good as they allow. But, y'all were beyond that. GREAT service. As I wrote . . . . . for our 50th Anniversary worship service for the Congregational Church On Mercer Island...as young people would say today , rocked. Our worship was ALIVE AND VIBRANT AND JUBILANT. Bert and Rose were cooperative and supportive. - I've had Dixieland Bands before with a Chicago Church---The UPTOWN/LOWDOWN BAND started the prelude, first notes of worship. In that first-notes-moment everything became alert and enthused...and for certain, the balance of the service, in large part because of the music from the band could never be a cure for insomnia. Not having the Uptown/Lowdown Band in our worship would have meant the service would have been drenched in boredom. BUT. It wasn't! Jun 8, 2014 Thanks again...please convey my gratitude to the band. Dr. Mark Miller, Pastor.
Knocked it out of the park... Kirkland SummerFest loved having UPLD perform - the right music at the right time. We'll have them again! Kirkland SummerFest - Aug 11, 2013
They did a fabulous job! All of the guests were impressed and entertained. We will definitely recommend them to friends and consider them for future events. :) Courtney - Corporate party downtown Seattle July 19, 2013
We are so happy that we chose Uptown Lowdown Jazz! They were amazing performers and all night our guests commented on how incredible they sounded. The band was professional and very reasonable in price. The communication from them was great and they made the day even more special. Thank you so much for the amazing performance. Theresa - Wedding July 2013.
Absolutely the best decision I could have made for entertainment at my party. Will recommend them every chance I get. I'm from New Orleans and they are right up there with any band in the city!!!!! What more is there to say? Nikki (Feb 2013 - Mardi Gras Themed Birthday Party)
Jazz was FABULOUS! They were very professional and the music was awesome. We had
guests ages 5 to 92, and absolutely everyone had a blast listening and dancing
to the music. Thank you for providing us a lovely evening. People are still
telling us how much they enjoyed your entertainment!!! Meighen -

Thank you Bert & crew for a fabulous performance at our party. It was so much fun to have such talented and experienced musicians to highlight the night. I loved your willingness to accomodate our birthday girl's special requests, and your voice of experience was right on. We really appreciated you making the trip to make our party so special for Mom and our guests! Hope to see you again somewhere along the road! Ruth A. 5/12/12 Birthday party - Tangent, OR
Uptown Lowdown Jazz was great!! They were everything they said they were and added energy and excitement to our event. We have already booked them again!! - Mardi Gras Olympia, WA Feb 2012.
really perfect in every way. I really feel lucky that I found these guys.
Everybody loved it so much. Kevin C. - Nov 19, 2011 Memorial
They were accommodating, did a
short parade prior to the gig, their arrangements were excellent and they made
the event very special. They were great to work with, and I will definitely have
them back next year if we do a similar event. I would recommend them MOST
highly! Dr. Mark Brown Friends of Children of Walla Walla, WA
It was a very wonderful experience. Everyone loved the band and they were very friendly and professional. I highly recommend hiring the Uptown lowdown jazz band for any event. I will hire them any chance I get. I may have to make up a reason to have a gathering just to have them come play again. I give them the highest rating possible and was very very very pleased. Steve, House party - Newcastle, WA July 2011.
The Uptown Lowdown Jazz Band was an amazing addition to our wedding day. Everyone raved, everyone danced, we just had a blast! I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an incredible, soulful band to play New Orleans influenced jazz at a wedding, party or function of any type. It's the perfect choice - not so loud that you can't sit and have a conversation if you'd like to - but good luck sitting still in your seat when they start! Michael J. - Wedding reception Portland, OR Sep 2010
I'm so happy we
were able to book ULJB for our wedding. They were the second vendor we booked
after our location and we couldn't be more pleased with the decision. The band
was wonderful, and even worked with my Husband to surprise me with a special
song (Bare Necessities, from The Jungle Book) for our first dance - I had no
idea that this was going on and was tickled pink when I heard the first few
bars. :) I had multiple guests asking where and how we found ULJB because they
were just perfect. (Even our wedding photographer loved them!) I can't imagine
our wedding without them. I'm only sad we don't have the money to book them for
every little party we throw! Mel R. Wedding - Tacoma, WA Aug 2010
More than memorable. Incredible. Book them now. We adored working with them, and our guests are still raving about them. Only wish I could've enjoyed one more dance . . .
Rebecca - Wedding reception Helena, MT July 2010
We were very pleased with the cooperation and communication prior to the event. They were tops!!! To quote my Dad who had his 95th birthday. We had the 3 piece band, a trumpet player with an awesome sound, an excellent bass saxophone player, and a great piano player. They made you want to dance, which we did and fit right in with our gala affair. We recommend them highly. Jackie Jan 12, 2010
They were OUTSTANDING!! Residents loved the music and danced in the isles. My mom, who was celebrating her 90th B-day...loved their performance. They played much longer than booked. We will have to book them again...they were a hit!!

"Uptown Lowdown Jazz was terrific! We hired them to perform at our annual Client Economic Outlook Seminar where we had 450 clients in attendence over two sessions. We are a financial advisory firm with clients generally in their 50s, 60s and 70s. We design our event to be informative as well as entertaining. We also use it to say "thank you" to our clients for their loyalty. We left the musical selection to them and it was perfect. "Sugar Blues" and "Pennies from Heaven" were especially great. The group is professional, talented and experienced. I would highly recommend them".
Paul - Financial Seminar Nov 2009
"The Uptown Lowdown Jazz were exactly what we needed. They made the party! It wouldn't have been as fun or as festive without them. We had fun dancing to their music, they played songs on request, and when we weren't dancing, they were great background to the party. When they stopped playing for a break, the party was noticeably less fun, so I know that they added a lot to the atmosphere. I'd hire them again in a second".

"Uptown Lowdown is absolutely fantastic! They are very talented and really helped to set a wonderful mood and vibe at my wedding. I cannot say enough good things about them. They are consummate professionals and overall nice people. I would absolutely hire them again for future events and would refer them to anyone who is looking for flawless jazz and swing music. "- Ann
"Bert - I'm sorry I didn't get over to say
thanks before you packed up and hit the road to home Sunday.
Dear Bert Barr -
"First of all, congratulations to everyone in Uptown Lowdown JB on receiving the highest audience rating of any band at the 2003 Sonoma County Festival despite not appearing in our audience survey form! I hope all of you had a good time here, and I want to apologize again for our glaring oversight of leaving your band name off the survey. That did not seem to matter to our audience" . . . John Howard Exec Director 2004 Wine Country Vintage Jazz Fest
"Can't resist saying this - sheer professionalism is what ULJB is all about." . . . Palmer Taylor - fan
"Uptown Lowdown is to traditional jazz what Mozart is to classics. Every note has a purpose, nothing is out of place, and each player is not only strong but has found a balancing point for his or her place in the mix." . . The Spokesman-Review Spokane,WA
"One of these days somebody is going to come up with a poll to determine the best 20 Dixieland bands in the land, and in our books, one spot amongst them is already nailed down by Bert Barr's Uptown Lowdown Jazz Band of Seattle" . . . Woody Laughlan, editor, West Coast Rag
"I would walk for a mile over broken glass in my bare feet to hear Uptown Lowdown. Their musicianship is stellar, and they are masters of the universe!!!!!!!!!!!!!" . . . Meg Graf - fellow musician
Dear Uptown Lowdown Jazz,
"Thank you for playing at our wedding celebration last July at Mountain Home Lodge in Leavenworth (and braving the unusually cold evening). We never dreamed we would have live music at our wedding celebration when we first started planning the event. We were absolutely thrilled to find a first rate band for a reasonable, affordable price - thank you! The band absolutely made the reception - the music was incredible - fun, entertaining & perfect for dancing. The songs were timeless - just the sort of ambiance we wanted to set the mood for our wedding. Thank you also to Rose Marie for her help in choosing and playing the ceremony music & accompanying my cousin Valerie in "At Last". We have such great memories of the wedding - thank you again for your contribution to our perfect day." . . . . . Love, Ellie & Cory
"Kudos. I have to say this is the ultimate in Dixieland Jazz. Best Regards", W.R. Sparks - fan from Ohio
"Speaking of bands seldom mentioned that play wonderfully well, my vote goes to the "Uptown Lowdown Jazz Band" They just performed at the Dixieland Monterey fest. This year's set up was 2 reed players, each a marvel of talent & both played Bass Sax. Cornet, T-bone, Banjo, Drums, piano [ & damn, I can't remember if they had a Tuba. I guess I was too taken with the Reed guys ]. All exceptionally talented. The band played what appeared to be 1/2 "head" arrangements, & 1/2 written arrangements. The counterpoint and flow of ideas was astonishing. Most bands play an ensemble chorus, pass around the solos and then take it out. Not this band. They get into a tune with the first chorus doing amazing things, then focus on the reeds doing more amazing things together. These two guys play like they are engaged in telekinesis. Then the focus goes elsewhere. What a banjo player !! etc. & etc. One of the engaging elements was the piano's turn. After all the fireworks of the rest of the band, the band went silent with only lite rhythm background & the lady just played simple lines that created a calming contrast. Like catching your breath. Gad, did I enjoy this band. I hope you get a chance to hear them". . . . . . . Russ Guarino

Uptown Swing & Jazz & Uptown "Lite" are satellite groups, conceived after years of performances in every type of venue. A s mentioned previously, it apparent that all businesses and clients don't need the same size band or require the same sound. Uptown Swing & Jazz provides various styles and sounds other than Dixieland and can provide groups from solo piano, duos & trios that have a light, swingy sound to groups that have a hot big band swing sound. In addition to the Ragtime and Dixieland that ULJB is famous for, Uptown Swing & Jazz plays the music well into the next decades with hot Swing and dance standards from the 1930's & 40's.
